Tropical One (working title)

Seriously!

I've uploaded an unmixed song from Ecstatic Sunshine. We just finished tracking today, and will be editing and mixing tomorrow evening and early next week. The album we're recording is four songs, which I've described in earlier posts.

The song that's up is the shortest of this collection, and probably the one with the most riffers. The working title is Tropical One (you'll see why when you listen), and it's in the player at the top of the page! You know?

We're tracking in this big warehouse space on the top floor of a six floor building near downtown in Baltimore. The room is really great for recording (there are a ton of spaces like this in Baltimore... so cool). It's the apartment that hosted Whartscape earlier this summer. It's called Floristree, and the guys that live there have a ton of awesome shows. Check it!

If you've heard Ecstatic Sunshine's stuff, or seen them live, you know that it's only two dudes on guitars, so micing the setup wasn't terribly complicated. The guys tracked seperately, so the setup was: a stereo pair of omni room mics way far back, and an sm57(dynamic) paired with a 4033(large condenser) on the amp (both more or less centered). The important part of recording these guys is setting the tone on the guitars, pedals, and amps appropriately for the parts, then capturing that sound accurately. The songs rely heavily on texture, so the relationship between the room mics to the close mics is a big deal.

Anyway, that's where my attention was through most of it. That and quality control, as always! (but not in a dick way, ok?)

Check it!

(Oh, I nabbed the picture off their myspace page! It's by Devon, of Wildfire Wildfire Records)

Sounds great but I hope that they don't call it "tropical one" because song titles that describe the atmosphere of the song tend to make me dismiss the track as throwaway.

And this track isn't throwaway at all!

I didn't even know you were working, and I think that's awesome.

Big bucks.

I like hearing bands your are working with and are friends with. Here's a link to a band some of my friend's are in: http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.

(sorry, but you'll have to paste that together)

I like them a lot. They're band name is a few chinease characters which the myspace code doesn't read, so the ?'s have taken their place.
