Mixes Fukkaz!!

We've got two mixes almost done...
Most of the tracking for Future Islands is finished. Editiing and mixing is the next thing pretty much! Three songs still need vocals...

There are two new songs in the player above. "Flicker and Flutter" may be "the single" from the album, which has nine songs and is tentatively named Wave Like Home.

Little Dreamer is the slowest song we're recording this week.

Let's get some feedback! These sneaky tracks are still officially unfinished!

Anonymous digs you bro - that's a good sign - that dude is everywhere.

I like the slow track - I like the decaying mixed up organy interference pattern feedback sounds. I think the drum part is too high in the mix and too present. It serves to wake me up when the song is sleepier. I also wish that you would do something a little fancier with the fadeout, especially the drum fadeout - they are too clicky to fade well - it's just so normal - a little expected - I like how the strange electronic seagulls fade up while the music fades out - maybe you could do something to the sound of the drums instead of having them fade to go with the seagull fade-up.

I think flicker and flutter is a good song - I like how unusual the singer's voice is - it sounds wide and loud. I wish that he would, like in the intro, make some noise to preview his voice - such as an "ungh" or "hungh" or "oh yeah" or some other vocalization to that we can hear how it sounds before it comes in suddenly. I also wish that the last rejoinder of "take your ring" would end at the same time as the last organ chord. Or continue past the music. I also think that the chorus of "take me out" should repeat one more time, maybe with the kind of stripped down (with simpler drumming) section such as starts at 220 - this is the catchiest part of the song and should be more of a singalong chorus.

Sorry - it's already a good song and I drank too much coffee so I'm being too critical. But I just really enjoy listening to the songs here, and when you say they are unfinished I tend to listen to them in a different way. I don't care what you do with advice.

I'm glad the Future Islands session is going well. Do they have any pets to feature in their songs?

BTW - whatever happened to the songs you recorded for Cara Satalino - did you finish them to put them on a cd for her tour?

Out of all three, Little Dreamer was my fav. It pulled me in right away and the softness of the vox was wonderful. I am used to a high level of intensity on the vox, which I think Flicker and Flutter is missing. I have heard Future Islands, and seen them live before so that might have something to do with it. I wanted that Future Islands climatic vocal moment burst and make me go 'fuck yeah'.
Regardless, I am so excited for the album. I can't wait to tell people.

Any CD release party ideas?
